Never Enough

Oh my, this song means so many different things to me. This weekend I was not feeling so good. I did not go and visit my parents as usual but stayed home to try and have some much needed family time with my husband and our minor children. We did watch The Greatest Showman. Not exactly my type of movie. It was a musical which totally reminded me of watching The Sound of Music as a kid, husband kept thinking crazy how kept breaking into song for everything just like my mom did back in the day.

My paternal grandfather died over fifteen years ago. I last saw him about twelve hours before he passed. I was aware that he was on his death bed but I was not told or aware just how close he was to death. It was a complete shock to me to find out that he passed in the night just twelve hours since my visiting him in the nursing home. It was just me and Sydney who was then just 5 months old who went to see him. I remember that my dad, his sister, her daughter in law and her granddaughter who where also visiting at the time. An aide came in to feed him some soft food, jello maybe? He had asked her “Am I dying?”. I was not able to hear what she said but his response was “Well, I lived a good long life.” And I am thinking but it is not long enough for me.

I ended up feeling so guilty for not visiting my dad that weekend as it turned out he passed away Monday afternoon.

Never Enough song by Loren Allred from The Greatest Showman
Rebecca Ferguson: Jenny Lind

I’m tryin’ to hold my breath
Let it stay this way
Can’t let this moment end
You set off a dream in me
Gettin’ louder now
Can you hear it echoing?
Take my hand
Will you share this with me?
‘Cause darling without you

All the shine of a thousand spotlights
All the stars we steal from the night sky
Will never be enough
Never be enough
Towers of gold are still too little
These hands could hold the world but it’ll
Never be enough
Never be enough

For me
Never, never
Never, never
Never, for me
For me
Never enough
Never enough
Never enough
For me
For me
For me

All the shine of a thousand spotlights
All the stars we steal from the night sky
Will never be enough
Never be enough
Towers of gold are still too little
These hands could hold the world but it’ll
Never be enough
Never be enough

For me
Never, never
Never, never
Never, for me
For me
Never enough
Never, never
Never enough
Never, never
Never enough
For me
For me
For me

For me
